I was thinking of placing all my questions under one thread but we'll have a book by the time I'm through so I decided to create a thread for every question. Hopefully this will help other sailors with similar questions as they can focus on one topic rather than skim a book.
Today's question is about trampoline tension. When I purchased the rig was already set-up but I think it to be a bit loose. With a minimal amount of effort I can dislodge the cable from the hook holding it in place. This seems a bit loose to me so I'm wondering if there is a rule of thumb for tensioning. My trampolone is the "classic" version with the all important drink holders

Rob, I think most folks just used the mainsheet blocks to gain tension, insert the hook while tightly tensioned and tie it up. I actually use aluminum turnbuckles and I can get that sucka tight. It will never get as tight as a club/h16/h14 style tramp. Steve

You know, I see a lot of classic Wave owners complaining about the tramp tension. It seems a tramp manufacturer could just make a "classic" style tramp that would connect to the side hooks, but still be split down the middle and tensioned with a rope in the middle. That would probably make a lot of "classic" owners happy.

What a great Idea Jim. DUH! Never heard that one before. I do know the whole point of the classic is for easy breakdown. It really is easy. If I had the club style tramp I would never break it down and just cover it really well for the winter. The loose tramp has always bothered me a bit but have gotten used to it now. It is very hard to accept it coming from another boat like a 16 or similar with a nice tight tramp.

I've just purchased a 1998 classic Wave, but I don't have it yet. I'm still working out the best way to get it from MN to CO. If it's in need of a new tramp when I get it, I'm going to try to find a tramp manufacturer that will make me a custom "classic" tramp with laces down the middle. I don't need to disassemble mine all the time, I'd rather have a tight tramp. If the existing tramp is in good shape, I still might try to find a shop that will modify it for me, and put laces down the middle.
I would have preferred to buy a "club" version, but this was a good deal, and I've been looking for a Wave to purchase all summer. They're hard to find!

I finally got mt Wave about a month ago, and I've been restoring it. I put the new tramp on it today, following through with what I had said in my previous posts here. I like this tramp a lot! It seems to be the perfect solution for those of us with "classic" Waves that want a little more tightness in our tramps. Wow, that is super nice man! great upgrade and now I'm thinkin' about it myself. Way to go. BTW, the snatch blocks for the jib sheet will most likely go right about where your hiking straps are so should be fine with the bag location. :-)
